EPL Matchday 7 Betting Picks
Liverpool vs West Ham United
Anfield, Saturday 1:30pm ET
Liverpool have bounced back from the humiliating loss against Aston Villa a few weeks back in the fashion we thought they might. They’ve responded with a seriously unlucky draw with Everton, followed by wins over Ajax, Sheffield, and Midtjylland.
West Ham have had arguably the toughest draw to start the season and it must be said that they’ve come out of it in decent shape. The Hammers are currently holding a record of 2-2-2 and have already played four of the top eight clubs.
The Hammers have proven hard to beat in recent weeks but they haven’t faced the beast that is Liverpool at Anfield. The Reds record at home in the league over the past couple of seasons is unfathomable and we can’t see them dropping points in this fixture.
Aston Villa vs Southampton
Villa Park, Sunday 8am ET
Aston Villa have been the surprise packet so far this season and currently sit in the top four as a result. They won their opening four fixtures including a 7-2 thumping of Liverpool and were simply playing out of their minds. That said, Villa crashed back to reality last weekend against Leeds where they lost 3-0 and that performance just might leave a few doubts in their minds going forward.
Southampton started the season in probably the worst possible way, losing comfortable in their opening two games and conceding a ton of goals. Credit to the Saints however, as they’ve been able to turn it around sharply and have now picked up 10 points from their last four games.
It’ll be interesting to see how Villa respond from their bubble bursting last weekend against Leeds. For us, we believe it’ll be the start of a downward spiral for them, unfortunately. They certainly won’t find it easy against the in-form Saints and at near 3-1 odds, we recommend backing Southampton to cause the upset away from home.
Manchester United vs Arsenal
Old Trafford, Sunday 12:30pm ET
The match of the round sees Manchester United take on Arsenal at the lunch time slot. The Red Devils were pumped by Tottenham a couple of weeks ago but have responded perfectly. They’ve recorded two impressive wins in the UCL, most notably their 5-0 thrashing of Leipzig last time out when Rashford banged home three.
Arsenal started off the season reasonably well despite their very tricky draw. They’ve lost games to fellow top eight teams in Leicester, Liverpool, and Manchester City, but have won their remaining three games where they were favorites.
Arsenal look as though they’ve improved a touch from last campaign, but they’re still yet to get a point from three meetings against the top tier clubs in the EPL. Away from home where they always seem to struggle, we can’t see them changing the narrative against a red-hot United outfit.
