EPL Betting Picks 2020-21: Matchday 26
Newcastle vs Wolverhampton
St James’ Park, Saturday 3:00pm (ET)
After a 3-1 loss to Manchester United, Newcastle are now fully entrenched in a relegation battle, sitting just three points above eighteenth placed Fulham. Newcastle have only won two of their last fourteen Premier League fixtures, whilst Wolves have avoided a relegation battle by picking up ten points in their last four league matches.
Wolves have an excellent record away from home, losing just once in their last five away matches, and they haven’t lost at St James Park since 2011. Newcastle’s defence has struggled to defend wingers, so the likes of Adama Traore and Petro Neto could run riot with the space they could get.
Newcastle have tended to play in open, free flowing games, so expect plenty of goals in this fixture, where the attackers will have plenty of space to get in and behind the defence. Wolves are in great form in recent times and Newcastle have been struggling for a sustained period of time, Wolverhampton will pick up a comfortable win in this encounter.
Chelsea vs Manchester United
Stamford Bridge, Sunday 11:30am (ET)
It’s a massive clash when Chelsea and Manchester United do battle at Stamford bridge on Sunday night. The Red Devils have had the wood over Chelsea recently, going undefeated in their last six games against Chelsea, with their last loss against them was back in 2017.
Chelsea have seen a big improvement since Thomas Tuchel was instated, however their attack has still struggled to put the ball in the back of the net. A 1-1 draw against fourteenth placed Southampton exemplified Chlesea’s major issues in their connection between midfield and attack. This Manchester United side have been a dominant force in attack this season, as they lead the Premier League for goals in season ‘20/’21 with 53. The Red Devils have emphasised playing an aggressive style this season, and they’ve reaped the rewards from it as they sit second on the Premier League table.
If United can open the game up and spread Chelsea’s defence, Chelsea will struggle to contain United, and they won’t have the attacking threats to trouble the United defence. Bruno Fernandes picked up a goal and an assist last week, taking his tally to 15 goals and 10 assists this season, it’s been a remarkable campaign by the Pourteguese star. The Red Devils are playing some exciting football and they are going to give this Chelsea defence some serious headaches.
Sheffield United vs Liverpool
Bramall Lane, Sunday 2:15pm (ET)
Not too long ago, this fixture would’ve been a forgone conclusion. However, with Liverpool’s horror run, every game becomes incredibly enticing as the defending champs struggle to end the slide. Liverpool have fallen to sixth on the table, after losing four games in a row and they face a dangerous prospect of a Sheffield United side that has nothing to lose.
The Blades sit in last place, fourteen points from safety and will be playing in the Championship next season, but you can guarantee they will lift for this match against the Reds. This fixture provides a massive opportunity for Liverpool to get back in the race for a Champions League spot, and you can expect to see Jurgen Klopp’s men sending a statement at Bramall Lane.
Despite Liverpool’s form slump, there’s just far too big of a talent gap between these two sides, the Blades just don’t have the defenders capable of stopping Mane, Firmino and Salah. You can expect a big win from Liverpool, who should end the form slump against the Blades this weekend.
