AFL Round 7 Betting Picks
Collingwood Magpies vs Gold Coast Suns
MCG, Friday 11:45pm ET
Collingwood are in some tough form at the moment having lost four on the spin. Their defeat in the ANZAC Day game against the Bombers last weekend was particularly disappointing and left supporters fuming. With just one win to their name this season, the Magpies need to get a serious wriggle on.
Gold Coast were really impressive in their big win over Sydney last weekend, which snapped a three-game losing streak. It was easily the Suns best win over the season and could act as a platform to get them back on track and in the mix for a finals spot.
Although the Suns were the better performing team last weekend in this matchup, the Magpies seriously need a win and we expect them to be playing desperate footy here. We expect them to step up on their home deck and deliver their second win of the season.
Adelaide Crows vs GWS Giants
Adelaide Oval, Saturday 12:10am ET
Adelaide were the surprise packet early in the season with wins in three of their first four games; however, they’ve been brought back to reality in their last two games with losses against poor opposition in the Dockers and the Hawks. Last weekend was particularly disappointing as they led for nearly all of the game before going down late in the fourth quarter.
GWS were outclassed against the Western Bulldogs in their Friday night grudge match last weekend, going down by 39 points in the end. It certainly wasn’t an embarrassing defeat however, as the Bulldogs are absolutely flying at the moment. The Giants are now 2-4 on the season, but both of their wins have come in the past three weeks.
This certainly isn’t the juiciest match in Round 7, but it’s one that has the potential to go down to the wire. With that said, we do give the edge to the Giants here as they’ve been in the far better form over the last couple of weeks. Getting them at a double-your-money price looks to be decent value here.
North Melbourne vs Melbourne Demons
Blundstone Arena, Saturday 11:10pm ET
North Melbourne have had a disastrous start to the season and look as though they’ll be lucky to win a game this season. The closest they’ve been to a win was a 30-point loss against the Cats, which came two weeks ago down in Geelong.
In stark contrast, Melbourne have had a dream start to their campaign and come into Round 7 unblemished at 6-0. They put in a classy performance against the defending champions last weekend to show they can match it with the best of them this season, at least on current form.
The Demons are the extremely short favorites here and deservedly so; however, we’re expecting a bit of a drop off from their best this week after such a big game last weekend. We can see North staying competitive for a quarter or two before dropping off, which should be enough to cover the huge spread.
