AFL Round 6 Betting Picks

Geelong Cats vs West Coast Eagles

GMHBA Stadium, Friday 11:45pm ET

Geelong bounced back from their loss against the Demons with an easy five-goal win at home against North Melbourne. The Cats certainly weren’t back to their best in their win, but they did get better as the game went along and will likely get a couple of key players back in the team this weekend. The Cats are now 3-2 and sit inside the top eight by percentage.

West Coast were also relatively easy winners in their Round 5 match. After getting jumped by the Magpies early, the Eagles were able to wrestle back momentum and put a big enough gap on the scoreboard to where they weren’t really troubled in the second half. The Eagles are now ahead of the ledger at 3-2.

This is an intriguing battle between two teams that haven’t shown any consistency from game to game so far this season. The Eagles are yet to win on the road and it’s unlikely that will change as they face one of the toughest tests in AFL, taking on the Cats at GMHBA Stadium. The spread is a little too big for our liking, so we’ll be taking the Cats to win between 1-39 points.

Hawthorn Hawks vs Adelaide Crows

UOTS, Saturday 10:30pm ET

Hawthorn were in their Round 5 clash against the Demons up to their eyeballs through the first three quarters, but got absolutely blown out of the park in the final term to eventually lose by 50 points. It was always going to be a tough battle for the rebuilding Hawks to grind out wins this season and that’s already evident after their 1-4 start.

Adelaide were favorites to win their Round 5 clash against the Dockers to improve to 4-1 to start the season, but that wasn’t to be the case as they went down by a couple of goals at home. For the first time this season the young Crows outfit looked a little gassed in the second half, which will make this weekend’s team selection and interesting one to keep an eye on. Regardless, being 3-2 through five games would’ve exceeded any expectations they had coming into the season.

This is a contest between two clubs who weren’t expected to play finals coming into the season and while the Crows have shown some improvement, we still deem those expectations to be accurate. The Hawks enter Round 6 in second last on the ladder, which would make some people wonder why they’re favorites here, but what you need to remember is that this is being played in Tasmania where they have an unbelievable record. It’s not our most confident play this week, but we do give the Hawks the edge in this one.

Collingwood Magpies vs Essendon Bombers

MCG, Sunday 1:20am ET

Collingwood put up a decent fight for the majority of the game against the Eagles in their most recent outing, but were simply outclassed in the end. The Magpies have now lost three games in a row since their big win over the Blues, taking them to 1-4 on the second and third last on the ladder.

The Bombers came into their clash with a classy Lions outfit on the back of a devastating loss against the Swans, which they weren’t able to bounce back from in Round 5. They were dominated from start to finish against the Lions to take their season record to 1-4, which is currently good enough for 14th on the ladder.

The big ANZAC Day match is always a ripper between these clubs regardless of where they’re situated on the ladder. While we expect this time around to be no different in that respect, we do believe it will follow the trend of being a low-scoring affair, particularly with the lack of firepower these clubs both present up forward. Jump on the ‘unders’ in this one, as the line just looks a couple of goals too big at the current time.
