AFL Round 4 Betting Picks
Western Bulldogs vs Brisbane Lions
Mars Stadium, Friday 11:35pm ET
Western Bulldogs will be overjoyed by their start to the season as they’re just one of three teams that are undefeated after three rounds. Last weekend they broke a club record with a monster 128-point win over North Melbourne in a game where Josh Bruce silenced the doubters with a career-best 10 goals.
Brisbane Lions pulled off a remarkable win against Collingwood last weekend, saluting via a goal after the siren from Zac Bailey. It was a crucial win for the Lions to avoid going 0-3 to start the season, which would’ve made it very difficult for them to make top four this season.
Both of these teams are quality and should be featuring in the finals this season, but the way the Bulldogs have started makes it impossible to oppose them here. At their second home at Mars Stadium, we give them the edge here and expect them to cover the small spread.
North Melbourne vs Adelaide Crows
Marvel Stadium, Saturday 11:10pm ET
North Melbourne have been the worst team by far through three rounds and come into this off an embarrassing 128-point defeat against the Bulldogs. North have the least talent of any team and their lack of veteran leadership is certainly present in their games. It’s going to be a very long season for their fans this season.
Adelaide Crows have surprised us all in the early stages of this season with wins in two of their first three games. It’s been a great start for them considering they finished last just a season ago and were expected to struggle to win a game this campaign. Veteran Tex Walker has been the shining light with is 17 goals, already eclipsing his tally from 2020.
This is the battle of the two worst teams from last season and although the Crows have shown some significant improvement through their first three games, the jury is still out on them. The major struggles for both teams come in attack where goals are always at a premium and we expect that to be the case on Saturday night, resulting in a low-scoring affair.
Melbourne Demons vs Geelong Cats
MCG, Sunday 1:20am ET
Melbourne Demons have gotten off to a dream start with wins in all three of their matches so far. They’re yet to be really tested by a top tier outfit but they’ve shown enough to suggest they can be a finals team in 2021. The Demons defense has been the most impressive part of their games, conceding an average of just 66ppg.
Geelong Cats have played in three consecutive nail-biters to start their campaign, beginning with a narrow loss against the Crows before bouncing back with wins against both the Lions and the Hawks. It certainly hasn’t been a convincing start from last year’s runner-up, but they’ve still got plenty of star power to come back into their line-up.
Going on form shown through the first three rounds, the Demons deserve to be the odds-on favorites at home here. They’ve ticked all the right boxes so far and are firing on all cylinders. We’re more than happy to be with them to get the chocolates on Sunday morning.
