AFL Round 10 Betting Picks
Carlton Blues vs Hawthorn Hawks
MCG, Friday 11:45pm ET
Carlton were no match for the undefeated Demons last weekend in their wire-to-wire loss. It was another disappointing performance from the Blues and has only added to their fans growing frustration. Now 3-6 on the season, this weekend is a must-win if they’re to be a chance of making the finals.
Hawthorn reached a new low last weekend when they went down to the then winless Kangaroos. Despite leading by five goals at one stage, the Hawks eventually lost by seven points and are now a poor 2-7 on the season. The Hawks leadership group has since said they’re embarrassed by the loss and will be desperate to make immediate amends, so it’ll be interesting to see what they dish up in Round 10.
Both clubs have been poor so far this season and will be desperate to get back on the winners list this weekend. The Blues are the favorites to do so and should get over the line, but we expect the Hawks to put in a determined effort and push them all the way here.
Geelong Cats vs Gold Coast Suns
GMHBA Stadium, Saturday 12:10am ET
Geelong would consider themselves very lucky to sneak away from their Round 9 game against the Saints with a win. If it wasn’t for their opponents poor kicking in front of goal in the first half, the game probably would’ve been done and dusted. Regardless, the Cats found a way to win and are now 6-3 on the season.
Gold Coast were thoroughly outplayed against the Lions in their rivalry game last weekend, going down by a whopping 73 points. The Suns coach called it an embarrassing performance post-game and will be expecting an immediate response from his players. The Suns are now 3-6 and have lost two in a row at home.
The Cats return to their home ground this weekend where they’re a perfect 3/3 on the season and were huge 97-point winners last time out. They have been historically dominant when hosting the Suns here and we expect that to continue with another massive win.
GWS Giants vs West Coast Eagles
Giants Stadium, Saturday 11:10pm ET
GWS put up a great fight against the Tigers as underdogs last weekend, but unfortunately came up short by four points. The Giants have been playing some really good footy over the past five or six weeks and come into Round 10 at 4-5 despite losing their opening three matches.
West Coast made light work of the Crows in their Round 9 clash, defeating them by five goals without ever leaving first gear. The Eagles have now won three games on the spin since their humiliating 97-point defeat to the Cats, which puts them at 6-3 on the season.
Both teams are in good form coming into this clash, which makes it a hard game to predict. You could certainly make a case for betting on either team in the head-to-head market, but instead we’ll be looking at taking the ‘Any Other Result’ bet in the ‘Wire-To-Wire’ market. We predict a great tussle that will be a game of runs, giving both teams equal chances of winning.
