Best Pick: EPL Match Day 29
Manchester United vs Southampton (Saturday March 2nd 7:30am ET)
Our best pick from a crucial Match Day 29 slate comes from Old Trafford, where Manchester United will host Southampton on Saturday, March 2nd at 7:30am (Eastern Time). Below you’ll find all the important statistics for the match, as well as our expect analysis and recommended betting pick.
Last time they played
The last time these teams played was back on December 2nd at St. Mary’s in Southampton. That match ended as a 2-2 draw and was filled with twists and turns. The first half was one of the most exciting 45 minutes of soccer we’ve seen this season. It included four goals and plenty of near misses, however the second half wasn’t quite as good, with both managers opting to tighten the screws on their defense and play a more conservative brand, which ultimately led to a scoreless second half.
Pictured below are all the important statistics from their meeting on December 2nd.
The Red Devil backed up a solid performances against Liverpool last weekend with a win on the road against Crystal Palace mid-week. Romelu Lukaku returned to form with a brace by the 52nd minute, before Ashley Young joined party on the 82nd to make it a comfortable 3-1 victory. That win stretched United’s unbeaten streak in the EPL to 11 games under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, which is a stark contrast from their form under former boss Jose Mourinho. The Red Devils have now moved into fifth spot on the table and are just one point behind the Gunners in fourth.
The Saints finally returned back to winning ways in their most recent outing against Fulham mid-week. They were four games without maximum points in the Premier League, but proved too strong for the Whites on their way to a 2-0 victory at home. Take what you will from that performance, but it was a much needed three points for the Saints, because it keeps them two points clear from the drop zone with just 10 games remaining this campaign.
We’re not quite sure how Manchester United aren’t a helluva lot shorted odds at home here. They’re by far the better side and are in tremendous form, picking up 29 of a possible 33 points in their last 11 EPL fixtures. We expect them to win this one very comfortably and are more than happy to take the +120 on offer at the -1.5 handicap.
