NBA Picks – Wednesday, March 4th
OKC Thunder @ Detroit Pistons
Little Caesars Arena, 7pm ET
The Thunder couldn’t match it with the Clippers on Tuesday night when they went down by 15 points on their home deck. Alarmingly, that was their second double digit loss on the spin after getting absolutely pummeled by the Bucks two starts back. Despite these results, this season has been a massive positive for a Thunder team that many expected to miss the playoffs. They’ve been able to prove all the doubters wrong to put together a 37-24 record with 21 games to play.
The Pistons recorded a shock win two games back when they traveled to Phoenix to take on the Suns. Despite being severely undermanned and without a whole lot of quality on their playing roster, the Pistons were able to get home by three points on the road. As good of a win that it was, that win remains their only one from their past nine games in what has been a really trying period for Detroit basketball. The Pistons are currently 20-42 on the season and aren’t expected to increase their win tally too much more before season’s end.
The Thunder may come into this off back to back heavy losses, however, both games have been against great quality sides, which they certainly won’t be facing in Detroit. OKC have a clear talent advantage over the rebuilding Pistons and will come into this as heavy favorites as a result. We expect them to get back onto the winners list with a really comfortable win on the road.
Best Pick: OKC Thunder -5.5 (-110 at BetRivers)
Memphis Grizzlies @ Brooklyn Nets
Barclays Center, 7:30pm ET
The Grizzlies seem to have turned the corner and recovered really well from a mini form slump they were going through. They had lost five straight games before the Lakers came to town two games back, but a huge win over a great team seems to have sparked them back into gear as they went onto record a dominant 39-point win over the Hawks in their next game. Back to back wins by the Grizzlies has seen them regain control of the heavily contested eighth seed thanks to their 30-31 overall record.
The Nets were rank outsiders when they traveled to Boston on Tuesday and by three quarter time it seemed clear why as they trailed by 17 points. However, Caris LeVert of the Nets went on an absolute rampage in the fourth quarter, helping send his team to overtime where he would again dominate and eventually close out the win. LeVert’s 51 points (37 in 4th Q and OT) was one of the great individual performances we’ve seen this season and showcased the great quality there is littered right around the NBA in the modern era.
Although LeVert and the Nets went absolutely bananas to record an upset win on Tuesday, we believe they’ll find it extremely difficult to back it up the night after against a young and energetic team in the Grizzlies. Led by Ja Morant, the Grizzlies play at an extremely high pace and are full of confidence at the moment on the back of two great wins coming in. We expect the traveling Grizzlies to get the jump early and go onto win this by a comfortable margin.
Value Pick: Memphis Grizzlies 7+ (+200 at BetRivers)
