NBA Betting Picks: Thursday, May 13th
Orlando Magic at Atlanta Hawks
Philips Arena, 7:30pm ET
The Magic are only playing to try and get their kids some reps and it’s showing with how they’ve been performing at the moment. They’ve lost each of their last four games, all by double figures, and don’t look like winning a game any time soon, unless they come up against a team in a similar frame of mind.
The Hawks would be thrilled with their ability to come out with back-to-back wins against an equally determined team in the Wizards in their recent outings. The time had come for the young Hawks to step up to secure a position in the top six in the East and they certainly haven’t disappointed.
This is a really easy pick for us considering the two different mindsets of these ball clubs at the moment. The Magic are simply trying to get some reps into their young guys, while the Hawks are looking to improve their playoff seeding. We expect the home side to record a very comfortable win here.
Sacramento Kings at Memphis Grizzlies
FedExForum, 8pm ET
The Kings have been on an unlikely winning run of late, coming up trumps in six of their past seven games despite being without at least two of their better players. In saying that, they have had the easiest portion of their draw to date and will miss out on a top 10 spot in the West.
The Grizzlies hadn’t been playing particularly well despite recording back-to-back wins leading into their clash against the Mavericks; however, they certainly found their rhythm that night as they came out on top by 29 points. The Grizzlies are now ninth in the West and are certain to play their part in the new play-in tournament.
While the Kings are on one of their best stretches of the season, we cannot see them competing with the Grizzlies under these circumstances. The home side should have far too much firepower and come away from this as very easy winners.
Portland Trail Blazers at Phoenix Suns
PHX Arena, 10pm
The Blazers are marching towards the playoffs in awesome fashion and want no part in the new play-in tournament. They’ve now won five on the spin and nine of their past 10 to assert themselves as a top six player in the West. Their recent win over the Jazz was particularly important on their current quest to avoid the play-in games.
The Suns find themselves in an unfamiliar position having lost three of their past four games, which has effectively cost them the #1 spot in the West. Despite that, it’s been a fabulous season for the Suns and everyone associated with them as they’re about the play in their first playoffs in 10 years.
The Blazers are clearly in great form coming into this matchup; however, they’re on the second night of a tough back-to-back against the two best teams in the league, which should prove a task too tall for them. We expect the Suns to bounce back on their home floor with a good win here.
