EPL Betting Picks 2021-22: Matchday 23
The Premier League season rolls on as the battle for fourth positions heats up. With just two points separating fourth from seventh, it’s all to play for. Chelsea and Tottenham headline this week’s action, and we’ve got you covered with our top picks!
Everton vs Aston Villa
Saturday 7:30am ET, Goodison Park
After a 2-1 loss to 18th placed Norwich, capping a 1-3-9 record in their last fourteen games, Rafa Benitez was sacked as Everton manager halfway through his first season in charge. Everton are in 15th place and just six points clear of the relegation zone, in what has been a disastrous season.
Aston Villa were produced an excellent second half to snatch a 2-2 draw against Manchester United. Philippe Coutinho wasted no time making an impact scoring on his debut, and adding some much needed polish that Villa have lacked. Coutinho will be a nightmare for an Everton outfit that has conceded 34 goals, the seventh most goals in the Premier League this season.
Aston Villa have enjoyed playing Everton since their return to the Premier League in 2019. In that timespan, Villa have three wins and two draws from five games against Everton. Aston Villa have built some positive form since Steven Gerrard has taken over, Villa’s attack were outstanding in the second half against Man United, and if they bring that form into this clash, they’ll be far too good for Everton.
Manchester United vs West Ham
Sunday 10:00am ET, Old Trafford
West Ham and Manchester United face of in a crucial battle in the race for fourth position on the Premier League table. The Hammers are in fourth place with 37 points, with the Red Devils is seventh place with 35 points, and a game in hand on West Ham.
Manchester United bounced back from a disappointing draw to Aston Villa, with a 3-1 victory over Brentford during the week. United withstood a mountain of Brentford attacks in the first half and managed to hold firm, before scoring three goals in the second half to blow the game wide open. West Ham were upset by Leeds at home last week, missing a golden opportunity to firmly secure their spot in the top four.
Manchester United have an excellent recent record against the Hammers, winning their last three Premier League matches against West Ham. The most recent of those was a dramatic a 2-1 win at the London Stadium back in September. This game will be a high scoring encounter, with both clubs ranking 4th and 5th for goals scored this season. West Ham’s last five matches have occurred against teams in the bottom 10, and only going 3-0-2 in those doesn’t make for great reading. Man United have a 5-2-1 record in their last eight Premier League games, facing up against higher quality opposition. This looms as a thrilling clash, but the Red Devils will come out on top.
Chelsea vs Tottenham
Sunday 11:30am ET, Stamford Bridge
Matchday 23 concludes with a huge game between Chelsea and Tottenham. Tottenham will be full of confidence after a remarkable comeback win over Leicester midweek, while Chelsea’s form slump continued in a 1-1 draw to Brighton during the week. Chelsea have picked up only one of a possible twelve points in the last four games, all but ending their title hopes.
Spurs are unbeaten in their last nine games, picking up 21 of a possible 27 points since Antonio Conte took over as manger. Tottenham have moved into fifth place, just one point behind West Ham with three games in hand, and eight points behind Chelsea with four games in hand. Tottenham could be in third place in no time if they take care of business. Although they have been one of the top scoring teams this season, Chelsea have struggled in attack in their last four matches. After averaging 2.2 goals per game in their first nineteen games of the season, Chelsea have only scored four goals in their last four games.
Tottenham are undefeated in the Premier League since Antonio Conte took over, and his former side is ripe for the picking. The off field issues at Chelsea are clearly effecting the on field performances for Thomas Tuchel’s men. Tottenham have an excellent opportunity to cause an upset against their London rivals, with the contrasting form of both clubs. With a chance to break into the top four, expect a huge performance by Tottenham.
