EPL Betting Picks 2021-22: Matchday 13
A huge weekend of Premier League action awaits, with blockbuster fixtures aplenty. West Ham travel to the Etihad for a huge top four clash with Man City, while Chelsea will be looking to pile on further misery for the struggling Man United on Sunday morning. We’ve got you covered with our best picks for the key clashes on Matchday 13!
Liverpool vs Southampton
Saturday 10:00am ET, Anfield
Liverpool got back to winning ways in stunning fashion, handing Arsenal a 4-0 thumping last weekend. The Reds were utterly dominant with 63% possession and 19 shots to Arsenal’s 5, showing the loss to West Ham was just a minor blip on the radar. Liverpool take on Southampton, who come into the clash on the back of a horror loss to Norwich on Matchday 12.
Southampton are going to have the enormous challenge of trying to contain the best attack in the competition, led by the Premier League’s two top scorers in Mo Salah (11 goals) and Sadio Mane (7). Liverpool have scored a league best 35 goals this season, while Southampton have only mustered 11 goals from 12 games so far this season. If Liverpool score early, it’s hard to see Southampton finding a way to get back into the match, their margin for error is so small with the lackluster attack they possess.
Another big factor going against the Saints is their recent record against the Reds. Southampton have an 1-0-7 record from their last eight Premier League matches against the Reds. Not only have they found it near impossible to overcome Liverpool, but they’ve struggled to even remain competitive against them, with an aggregate score of 19-3 across those eight matches. With the form Liverpool are in right now, this is destined to be a one sided clash, and the Reds won’t have any troubles in this matchup.
Manchester City vs West Ham
Sunday 9:00am ET, Etihad Stadium
Manchester City host West Ham in a blockbuster battle between second and fourth place on the Premier League table. The defending champs were at their absolute best in a clinical 3-0 win over Everton on Matchday 12. City had 17 shots on goal to Everton’s 4, and held a whopping 78% possession, as they dominated the game from start to finish. West Ham come into this clash on the back of a disappointing 1-0 loss against Wolverhampton, which saw the Hammers drop from third on the Premier League table, to fourth.
This matchup pits two of the best attacking sides in the competition against each other, in what is destined to be an exciting clash. Manchester City have the 3rd ranked attack in the league, scoring 25 goals this season, and West Ham have the 4th ranked attack, scoring 23. Both sides are incredible in the front half of the pitch, but City has a considerable advantage in this fixture through their defence. City are the second ranked defence in the Premier League, allowing only six goals from twelve matches in season ‘21/’22. West Ham have conceded fourteen goals this season, not awful by any stretch of the imagination, however against a side like Manchester City, the margin for error is so small.
The defending champs have had the wood over West ham, with an 8-1-0 record against the Hammers. Man City haven’t lost to West Ham in the Premier League since 2015. Both clubs are in rich form with four wins and one loss in their last five Premier League matches, and this match is destined to live up to the hype. West Ham are a side on the rise, and don’t have the big game experience that City have, the defending champs will know how to handle the occasion.
Chelsea vs Manchester United
Sunday 11:30am ET, Stamford Bridge
Michael Carrick’s first Premier League game as interim manager of Manchester United couldn’t have come with a bigger challenge, away to league leading Chelsea. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked after the Red Devil’s 4-1 loss to Watford last weekend, While United are in all sorts, Chelsea are unbeaten in their last six games in the Premier League, with a 3-0 win over Leicester seeing them remain three points clear at the top of the table.
Chelsea’s balance at both ends of the pitch, has been the key to their success so far this season. The Blues rank first for defence having conceded just four goals from twelve games, and they rank second in attack with 30 goals so far this season. Chelsea’s depth can be highlighted by the fact they have had fifteen different goal scorers so far in season ‘21/’22. United are currently one of the worst defensive teams in the Premier League, having allowed 15 goals in their last five Premier League matches. The Red Devils have the 18th ranked defence this season, with only cellar dwellers Newcastle and Norwich having conceded more goals in this campaign.
Not only does the statistical profile of each side make for bad reading for United fans, Chelsea’s recent record against the Red Devils raises even bigger concerns. Chelsea are 3-4-0 in their last seven Premier League matches against Manchester United, with their last loss against United coming back in 2017. The two clubs come into this clash with polar opposite form lines. Chelsea are 4-1-0 in their last five matches, with Man United 1-0-4 in their last five games. United have been on the end of some ugly thrashings in the last month, and the task doesn’t get any easier coming up against this incredible Chelsea outfit. Another day of pain awaits for Manchester United.
