NBA Playoffs Betting Picks: Monday, May 31st
Philadelphia 76ers at Washington Wizards
Capital One Arena, 7pm ET
Philadelphia took a commanding 3-0 series lead against Washington when they thoroughly outplayed them on the road in Game 3 and came up trumps by 29 points. The 76ers won every quarter in that wire-to-wire win and have won their three games against the Wizards in this series by an average of 20.33 points.
Joel Embiid had the best individual season of anyone on these two rosters and he’s backed that up by being the best player on the floor through three games. He’s coming off a huge Game 3 where he dropped 36 points on 14-18 shooting in under 30 minutes court time. For the Wizards, they’ve been getting solid production out of both Russell Westbrook and Bradley Beal for the most part, but just being solid isn’t going to get it done against the best team in the East.
We predicted a series sweep at good odds prior to Game 1 and it’s looking bang on the money as we head into Game 4. The Wizards simply cannot handle Joel Embiid and are struggling to get good looks themselves, which is obviously a recipe for disaster. This should be another straightforward win for the 76ers where they will cover the spread in the process.
Utah Jazz at Memphis Grizzlies
FedExForum, 9:30pm ET
Not many people were too excited about this 1st vs 8th matchup in the West, but it’s arguably been the most entertaining first round series to date. The Grizzlies managed to jump the Jazz and steal Game 1 on the road, but with Donovan Mitchell returning from injury in Game 2, the Jazz have been able to win the last two games to go ahead 2-1 as we approach the second game in Memphis.
The Grizzlies have played with a lot of fight and poise considering they’re the second youngest team in the league and the youngest team to make the playoffs in 10 years. Ja Morant has been special like we expected, while Dillon Brooks has been fantastic on both ends of the floor. On the other hand, Donovan Mitchell has been huge despite playing with a minutes restriction, and Mike Conley is playing at a really high level against his old team.
The young Grizzlies have been extremely competitive through the first three games of this series, but looked like their tough schedule was finally starting to take a toll on them late in Game 3 when the Jazz went on their game-breaking run. We get the sense that they’re due for a down game and that the Jazz will take a commanding 3-1 lead in the series.
