The 2021 Australian Football League (AFL) season continues this weekend with Round 19. There’s been plenty of fixture reshuffling in order to get a full nine-game round happening and we have our best bets for all games right here!
AFL Round 19 Betting Picks
Carlton Blues vs North Melbourne
Marvel Stadium, Friday 11:45pm ET
Carlton continued their solid run of form with a come from behind win against an inspired Collingwood outfit last weekend. The Blues outscored the Magpies 40-3 in the final term to run home 29-point winners, securing their third victory in four games to keep their slim finals chances alive.
North Melbourne also put in another solid shift last weekend despite going down by 19 points to the Bombers. The Kangaroos have become a seriously competitive team in the second half of the season compared to their atrocious first couple of months. They’ve now been within five goals of their opponents in each of their last seven games.
The Kangaroos will be happy with how they’ve progressed as the season has gone on, but they still have a lot of work to do to be able to close out games with wins. We expect them to fall short once again against this in-form Blues team that should be able to secure their fourth win in five games.
Sydney Swans vs Fremantle Dockers
Metricon Stadium, Saturday 10:30pm ET
Sydney were slow starters against their cross-town rivals in the Giants last weekend, trailing by five goals at the first break; however, they hit their straps after that to outscore the Giants 90-35 in the final three quarters and finish up as relatively comfortable winners. The Swans have now won three straight games and remain a legitimate chance to finish in the top four.
Fremantle’s fantastic run of form took a big hit last weekend when they were obliterated on their home deck by the Cats. Granted the Cats are arguably the best team in the competition this season, the Dockers still let themselves down with both their effort and execution. Despite the loss, they’ve still won three of their past five games and remain a puncher’s chance of making the finals.
These clubs met earlier in the season in Perth and it was the home side in the Dockers who came out on top by two points in a thriller. The Swans now get their chance to play hosts, albeit at a neutral venue, and bring fantastic form into the game. We expect them to get their revenge with a comfortable win to continue their push towards the top four.
Geelong Cats vs Richmond Tigers
MCG, Sunday 1:20am ET
Geelong flexed their muscles with a superb away performance against the Dockers last time out, cruising to a 69-point victory in trying conditions. That win was the third straight for the Cats, all of which have been fantastic performances, since lowering their colors to the Lions in Round 15. Geelong are now two points off top spot with 13 wins from 17 games.
Richmond found themselves virtually in a do or die fixture against the Lions last weekend after suffering four consecutive defeats leading in. Despite being the clear underdogs, the Tigers managed to rise to the occasion and win by 20 points on the Gold Coast to keep their season alive.
What a blockbuster we have on our hands here – it’s a real shame there won’t any crowds there to witness it live due to Covid outbreaks. The Cats will start as the hot favorites and rightly so considering their level of performance this season, but the Tigers are coming off an inspiring win and are fighting for their season. All things considered, we’re expecting a tight tussle but for the class of the Cats to eventually see them pull away.
