NFL Week 9 Betting Picks
New York Jets at Indianapolis Colts
Thursday 8.20pm (ET)
The Jets claimed a massive upset win over teh Bengals in Week 8 to move to 2-5 on the season. They are still three games behind the division leading Bills, but the win over the Bengals showed that they aren’t the walkovers everyone thought they would be. They are still one of the lowest scoring teams in the competition, averaging just 16.3 points per game but the change at starting quarterback to Mike White seems to have improved their offense.
The Colts squandered a late lead over the Titans in Week 8 to lose in a high scoring game 34-31. Carson Wentz threw for three touchdowns but also turned the ball over twice as his inconsistent form continued. The Colts now sit a full three games behind the Titans in the division, and will need to start their run now if they have any ambitions of making the playoffs.
The Colts start as massive 10.5 point favourites here but I’m leaning the other way. Mike White seems to have made this offense semi-competitve, putting up 34 points against the Bengals. I think they have enough fire-power to keep this one close.
Tennessee Titans at Los Angeles Rams
This is the makings of a really high scoring game. The Rams and the Titans sit in 5th and 6th place in points per game across the NFL, averaging 30.6 and 28.4 points respectively. The Titans put up 34 points in a win over the Colts on the weekend while the Rams put up a whopping 38 against the Texans.
The game will be played under the roof at SoFi Stadium, so weather won’t be an issue as two of the top offenses in the league do battle. The last time these two teams played was all the way back in 2017 as the Rams claimed a six point win in a game where 50 points were scored.
With Derrick Henry injured for the Titans, they should go to their passing game even more in this clash, which should promote a pretty fast paced and free-flowing game. I expect this one to go over 53.5.
Chicago Bears at Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers will host the Bears on Monday Night Football in what should be an interesting clash between two teams in similar positions in their respective divisions. The Steelers sit in third place in the competitive AFC North, just one game being the Ravens while the Bears are in third place in the NFC North, further back from 1st place but not completely out of the picture.
The Bears went down by 11 points to the 49ers in Week 8 and will be desperate to bounce back on the road. The Steelers captured a five point win over the Browns in an extremely low scoring game as their defense was the catalyst. The Steelers have one of the best defenses in the league this season, averaging just 20.3 points per game.
It’s a really low total point line here at just 40.0. The Bears have the reputation of having a good defense, but it’s been anything but this season, averaging 24.4 points per game, in the bottom half of the league. I think this one could go over for just a small wager.
