NBA Betting Picks: Friday, November 12th
Brooklyn Nets at New Orleans Pelicans
Smoothie King Center, 8pm ET
The Nets continue their long road trip when they head to New Orleans on Friday where they will take on the Pelicans. Most recently the Nets were able to take care of business in Orlando, improving their road record to 4-2 and their overall record to 8-4, which is the third best mark in the NBA.
The Pelicans have had arguably the worst run with injuries of any team so far this season, with their two start in Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram making a combined four appearances from their 12 games. With little depth and experience without them on the court, the Pelicans have struggled mightily and have just one win to their name so far.
Ingram is a real chance to return to the line-up on Friday, which is obviously a big boost for the Pelicans. Regardless, the Nets have found some fantastic form in recent weeks and should prove far too strong for the home side on this occasion.
Phoenix Suns at Memphis Grizzlies
FedExForum, 8pm ET
The Suns were slow starters this campaign with only one win from their opening four games; however, they’ve since gone on a six-game winning streak and are arguably the form team of the league at the moment. Admittedly, the Suns have had a relatively easy schedule thus far, having played seven of their 10 games on their home deck.
The Grizzlies have been a hard team to get on a read on this season and are yet to win or lose more than two games in a row. Most recently they were defeated at home by the Hornets to the tune of 10 points, which was their second really poor performance from their last three games.
Despite entering this fixture on a league-high six-game winning streak, it’ll be the Suns who start as the slight underdogs with the bookies. In our opinion, that’s a bit of a misread because the Suns had the best road record in the league a season ago and are playing with high confidence at the moment. We have them getting the job done at good odds.
Minnesota Timberwolves at Los Angeles Lakers
Staples Center, 10:30pm ET
The Timberwolves got off to a surprisingly hot start this season with wins in three of their first four games, although that form was short-lived as they’ve since gone onto lose each of their last six. Defense was an issue for the Timberwolves last season and it’s plagued them again in recent weeks as they’ve given up 123+ points in three of their last four games.
The Lakers were sluggish in their first couple of games of the season and life seemingly became a lot more difficult when LeBron James was ruled out for an extended period due to injury. However, the new-look Lakers have rallied hard in his absence to win seven of their last 10 games, three of which were secured in overtime.
As mentioned above, the Lakers have had to rely on a lot of clutch play to get their wins of late, but the current points spread of -3 looks too small in our opinion, particularly with this game being played at the Staples Center. They come up against one of the worst teams in the league in the Timberwolves and should be able to secure a much more comfortable win on Friday proving they play with their usual intensity.
