What a great start to the Call of Duty League it was two weeks ago in London. Our pick to take out the event, the Chicago Hunstmen, saluted at fantastic odds of +230 in a dominant performance.
The Call of Duty League heads to Atlanta this weekend for Week 3 of play, with one of the season favourites, the Atlanta FaZe, set to host the event. As usual, we have a full preview and betting picks for the event below.
While betting on esports is largely still unregulated within the United States, few are lucky enough to have avenues to gamble on the global phenomenon, so we’ll continue to give previews and picks until it becomes fully regulated.
Call of Duty Week 3 (Atlanta) Betting Picks
Format & Teams
Eight of the 12 teams in the Call of Duty League will compete in Atlanta, headlined by the home team, Atlanta FaZe, who enter the tournament as hot favourites. Also in attendance will be the Chicago Huntsmen, who were dominant in the first official event of the season in London two weeks ago.
Both the Paris Legion and Minnesota ROKKR went undefeated in launch weekend and will be playing their first official event of the season in Atlanta while Optic Gaming will also be in attendance and will be desperate to climb off the bottom of the standings.
Rounding out the eight teams will be the Florida Mutineers, the London Royal Ravens and the Toronto Ultra.
After the dominant performance in London and a 2-0 record in the launch weekend, the Chicago Hunstmen take a commanding lead atop the Call of Duty League standings. They have now accrued 70 points and lead their nearest rivals by 30 points heading into Week 3 of the season. Despite their dominance in the opening weeks, however, they won’t go into the Atlanta tournament as favourites.
That honour instead goes to the home team, the Atlanta Faze, who also went 2-0 in the launch weekend but didn’t make the trip to London. They are one of just three teams, along with the Huntsmen and the Minnesota ROKKR, who remain undefeated in the 2020 Call of Duty League season, all of whom will be in action this weekend.
The Atlanta Faze outfit is definitely a strong one, but it is largely unproven. The starting five has no championship rings between them and relies heavily on the talent of young stars. ABeZy, Simp, Cellium, MajorManiak and Priestahh make up the five-man roster, which is strong, but unworthy of the -163 price tag that has been slapped on them for their home event.
Instead, we will be hunting value this weekend, and we think that comes in the form of two teams. First of all, how can you look past the Chicago Huntsmen. They have been near flawless throughout the 2020 Call of Duty League season so far, winning all six of their matches and combining for a ridiculous 18-4 map count.
They breezed through the London event on the back of some dominant play by young stars Envoy and Arcitys, with the star studded duo of Formal and Scump seemingly taking a back-seat. You can rest assured that the duo, who teamed up for a Call of Duty Championship 2017, won’t be held down for long.
Pick: Chicago Hunstmen to win (+275)
The second team who we think provides extreme value is Optic Gaming LA. The squad was one of the title favourites before the season started and after a disappointing result at the launch weekend which saw them go 0-2, they have sky-rocketed to a ridiculous +5000 to win in Atlanta.
Optic Gaming had two tough matchups in launch weekend against Paris Legion and Chicago Huntsmen, who both went 2-0 and both performed well in the opening event in London. While they might not take it out in the end, there is no way a squad this talented should be at +5000.
Optic Gaming LA is led by veterans JKap and Slasher, who have three rings between them and supported by Kuavo. However, their real edge comes in the form of talented youngsters Dashy and TJHaly, who were integral parts of the Optic Gaming franchise last season and are two of the best players in the game.
