2019 PGA Betting Picks: 3M Open

The 2019 PGA Tour continues this weekend as we head to TPC Twin Cities in Minnesota for the inaugural 3M Open! The 3M Championship has been an event on the PGA Tour Champions for the last 26 years but in 2019 it will be promoted to the PGA Tour this year.

We take a look at the 3M Open and give our full betting picks for the tournament below!

2019 3M Open Betting Picks

The Course

TPC Twin Cities will play host to the inaugural 3M Open this week. The course is no stranger to competitive golf, however, as it has hosted the 3M Championship for the past 18 seasons in a row. The TPC set up for the annual Champions Tour event has wide fairways and fairly easy rough to navigate. You can bet that the PGA will have a different set up for the course this week.

It will play as a 7,468 yard, Par 71 this week, which adds almost 500 yards to the course and takes away one stroke from par. The usual Par 5 third hole has been turned into a monster Par 4 and if that’s not enough, the fairways have been narrowed and the rough has been thickened for the tournament.

One thing that hasn’t been changed heading into this week is the greens, which makes us think that strong players from tee-to-green should have the slight advantage this weekend as that’s where the real challenge will be.

The Field

With the purse for the tournament sitting at just $6,400,000, the field for the inaugural 3M Open is naturally quite light. The No.1 player in the world, Brooks Koepka, will headline the event in an attempt to tune up for the upcoming Open Championship, where he will look to win his second major title of the year.

The only other player in the top 10 that will be lining up in Minnesota will be the World No.8 Bryson DeChambeau, who has had an up and down season to date and will be looking to continue some good form after a T8 performance at the Travelers last weekend.

Headlining the rest of the field will be the likes of Jason Day, Hideki Matsuyama, Patrick Reed, Joaquin Niemann, Keegan Bradley, Tony Finay and Phil Mickelson.

Picks

We love the look of Rory Sabbatini (+2900) this week. The Slovakian has been surging up the world golf rankings lately and currently sits No.84 after a fantastic T3 finish at the Rocket Mortgage Classic on the weekend. He hasn’t missed a cut in his last 13 PGA Tour events and has finished in the top ten in five of his last eight.

Sabbatini ranks highly in the key stats that we are targeting this week, even more so if you narrow them down to the last few months of play. In 2019 he ranks:

  • 38th in SG off the tee
  • 22nd in SG around the green
  • 38th in SG tee to green
  • 33rd in SG total
  • 51st in driving accuracy

Other picks:

  • Joaquin Niemann +2700
  • Nate Lashley +6500
  • Keith Mitchell +8000
