2021 Ryder Cup Betting Picks
Friday 24th – Sunday 26th September, Whistling Straits, Wisconsin
The Europeans have had a stranglehold on the Ryder Cup for the better part of a decade but they will start as heavy underdogs when the tournament kicks off on Friday morning.
USA Team: Collin Morikawa, Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay, Tony Finau, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, Harris English, Daniel Berger, Scottie Scheffler
There is no doubt that Team USA has the star power, but that has been the case for what seems like an eternity in the Ryder Cup. Their problem has always been cohesiveness and a willingness to put team first. Will 2021 finally be the year when all of these larger than life egos mesh together as a team?
The Americans boast 9 of the top 11 ranked players in the world, with the likes of Collin Morikawa, Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas and recent FedEx Cup Champion Patrick Cantlay leading the way.
Europe Team: Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Paul Casey, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Tyrrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood, Viktor Hovland, Lee Westwood, Bernd Wiesberger, Sergia Garcia, Ian Poulter, Shane Lowry
Make no mistake, the European Team has real star pwer as well in the likes of Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy, but the reason they have been so successful over the past decade in the Ryder Cup is not because of their individuals, it’s because of the some of their parts.
For many Team Europe players, the Ryder Cup is the ultimate achievement in golf, and they play like it. Their comradery and willingness to put team first is second to none, while the record of Ryder Cup specialists in the likes of Sergio Garcia and Ian Poulter speak for themselves.
I can’t get enough of Team Europe this week. There seems to be so much unrest in the American team in the lead up tot he tournament. The beef between Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau continues to rage on and it could force a wedge in the middle of the squad.
That combined with the fact that Steve Stricker failed to pick some players that the American golfing public really wanted to see out there like Patrick Reed, Kevin Na and Kevin Kisner, and there is a lot of uncertainty in the U.S. camp.
Team Europe has to be the play here. At best, I see this as a 50-50 contest but I’m leaning towards the Europeans, so the +190 pricetag on offer for them to win seems real value. They have proven match winners in the Ryder Cup and their cohesiveness will be leaps and bounds ahead of the U.S. outfit.
