NBA Picks – Friday, November 8th
Miami Heat @ Los Angeles Lakers
Staples Center, 10:30pm ET
Our best pick of the 11-game slate on Friday comes from the mouth-watering matchup between the Heat and the Lakers at the Staples Center. Both team are in great form, which should lead to a very entertaining fixture for the neutral fan.
The Heat are coming off a win over the in-form Suns, which loomed as a very tricky match-up. They led at all changes in a big wire-to-wire win with Jimmy Butler (34 points) and Goran Dragic (25 points) leading the charge. The Heat are now 6-2 on the season and are an impressive 6-1-1 ATS.
The Lakers come into this with two days rest following their six point win over the Bulls. They did it the tough way against their inferior opponents, coming from 17 points down at the main break to record a solid win. The Lakers are now 6-1 on the season and lead a stacked Western Conference.
The Lakers may be the odds on favourite to win this one, but the Heat have proven to be very tough to handle this season. They’ve only lost one game by double digits this campaign, which was a blowout loss to the Nuggets on the road, which is always a tough matchup at altitude. We expect the Heat to be primed for their visit to the Staples and put in an effort that will see them go very close to victory.
Best Pick: Miami Heat +8.5 (-110 Sugarhouse)
Cleveland Cavaliers @ Washington Wizards
Capital One Arena, 7pm ET
The Cavaliers look like the value play on this slate in our view. Yes, they’re in rebuild mode and only have two wins to their name in seven games, but they also come up against a Wizards outfit that has done exactly the same. The Cavs actually have the better team here believe it or not. Kevin Love is playing at a near All-Star level and Tristan Thompson is playing as if he’s in another contract year (he is). Meanwhile, the Wizards have Bradley Beal and a bunch of guys that are unknown to most households. We have the Cavs going very close, if not pinching the win on the road here.
Value Pick: Cleveland Cavaliers (+185 Sugarhouse)
