We’ve now notched back-to-back wins with our picks of the day, and have moved even further into the green for the season. On Saturday the Lakers stormed out to a 20+ point lead and looked certain to cover their +7 spread. However, James Harden and Eric Gordon clawed the home side back and ended up winning in an overtime thriller. Luckily for us we still got up, but it wasn’t without a roller coaster. We now shift our focus to the small three game slate on Sunday, and look to extend our streak to three. Good luck to everyone following!
Best Bet Sunday January 20th
Phoenix Suns @ Minnesota Timberwolves (7pm ET)
Our best bet for a small Sunday slate comes from the Western Conference match-up between the Phoenix Suns and the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Target Center. The one and only time they’ve met this season was in Phoenix, where the Suns ran out eight point winners (107-99) in a game that KAT and the Wolves were full of excuses.
The Suns come into this contest with a current losing streak of three. They’re on a tricky road trip at the moment and will play the fourth and final game of that trip on Sunday. The bad news for The Suns is they’re 0-3 on the trip and are on the second night of a back-to-back, where they’ve lost each of their last 13 games. As it stands, the Suns are dead last in the Western Conference standings at 11-36 and are simply playing for pride at this point. Some positive news for Suns fans is the great play of Devin Booker, who’s one of just three players this season to be averaging 24+ points and 7+ assists (joining LeBron James and James Harden).
The Timberwolves come into this in a losing streak of their own, having lost each of their past two and three of their last four games. Their most recent loss came at the hands of the Spurs, who came from behind to upset the home crowd by three points (116-113). As it stands, the Timberwolves are out of the playoff picture in the West with a record of 21-24, which places them in 11th spot.
It’s clear that both teams are struggling as they enter this game on Sunday. The Suns have lost three straight and are last in the West, while the Timberwolves have lost two straight and are in 11th. However, we feel the Timberwolves fortunes are about to change with a big home win over their opponents here. The Suns have lost 13 straight on the second leg of a back-to-back, showing that their extremely young core is incapable of recovering in time to fight. For this reason, as well as the must win situation for the Timberwolves, we’re more than happy to suggest a play on the home teams spread.
