NFL Week 2 Monday Betting Picks
New Orleans at Las Vegas
Allegiant Stadium, 8.15pm (ET)
The Saints were favorites in Week 1 but all of the talk was surrounding Tom Brady and the Buccaneers. Many thought that the new look Tampa Bay team would come into New Orleans and capture a win but Drew Brees and co stood firm, putting up 34 points in the process.
Brees was servicable in the season opener, passing for 18/30 and 160 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. His job will be harder this week, however, as star receiver Michael Thomas has been ruled out of the clash with an ankle injury.
With no Thomas in the line-up, expect Brees and the Saint to try different things on offense, and the main beneficiary of that could be running back Alvin Kamara, who is a brilliant pass catcher out of the back-field. Back Kamara to have a big game here.
The Raiders clawed out a great Week 1 win in Charlotte and will be looking to make it 2-0 on Monday night as they play their first game in the brand new Allegiant Stadium. All eyes will be on the Raiders for what feels like the first time in years, and football will no doubt be the talk of Sin City if they can upset the Saints.
Derek Carr was solid in Week 1 with 239 pasing yards and a touchdown but it was running back Josh Jacobs who stole the show. Jacobs went for 139 all-purpose yards and rushed in three touchdowns as the Raiders put up 34 points on the day.
Jacobs is a great pass-catching option out of the back-field and is also the Raiders go to guy on the goal-line so we love the value of him to find the end-zone on Monday night.
With Thomas in the line-up we’d expect this line to be 6.5 or 7 but with him ruled out with an ankle injury the line currently sits at just 5.5 points in favor of the Saints.
Hard to look past them with the offensive weapons they have, but we do like the look of the over better. The two teams put up 34 points each in Week 1 and offense should be free flowing again under the dome at Allegiant Stadium. 48 seems a little low here.
