It’s finally here! The wait for hte 2021-22 NFL season is over, with Week 1 set to get underway this Thursday night. As always, we will have you covered with betting picks for EVERY game this season, but today we are taking a look at some of the season long markets and giving our picks for some of the division/conference and Super Bowl outrights.
NFL Season Betting Picks
We’ll start off by taking you through a brief division by division preview, and outlining who we think will win each, culminating in our Super Bowl LVI pick.
After a strong season that saw them reach the conference championship game, the Buffalo Bills will start as strong favourites in the AFC East, and outside of an injury to quarterback Josh Allen, we can’t really see them squandering their reign on the division this season. They finished the year with a 13-3 record, a full three wins better than the next best in teh division, the Miami Dolphins, a deficit that the Dolphins haven’t done enough in the off-season to make up.
Again, another division that doesnt really hold a lot of value is the AFC West. The Kansas City Chiefs have been the best team in the division and the conference for the better part of three years now, and given they won the west by six games last season, we just can’t see them failing to win it again this year. I expect improvement out of both the Chargers and the Broncos, but certainly not enough to challenge for the division.
Of the AFC divisions, the North is the one to attack if you are really hunting some value. There are three solid chances to win the division in the Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers. Pittsburgh were surprise winners of the division last season, but all three teams made the playoffs. The Ravens were dominant in the 2019-20 season and after a ‘disappointing’ year that saw them finish with an 11-5 record last season, we expect them to bounce back and win this division with another year of growth from star QB Lamar Jackson.
Another division where there is value in the AFC is the South. The Tennessee Titans start as firm favourites after an 11-5 record last season, but the Indianapolis Colts are the sext pick in the South at the moment. They also had an 11-5 record last season and while many are speculative, we think they improve with Carson Wentz at the helm over the aging Philip Rivers. I love their value to gain at least one extra win here and claim the division over the Titans.
The most polarising division in the league is without doubt the NFC East and it is set to be another thrilling year as it looks completely up for grabs yet again. I wouldn’t be surprised if any of these four teams won the division this year and the biggest question mark in the division remains the health of Dallas QB Dak Prescott. If he can stay healthy, the Cowboys look the goods in the division, but it’s a big if. I am hunting value here, and I like the look of the Giants heading into the season. Daniel Jones will continue to improve and a healthy Saquon Barkley is promising signs.
This might be the strongest division in football and the hardest to pick. I could conceivably see three of these teams going to the Super Bowl in the 49ers, Rams and Seahawks, while the Cardinals are no slouches. The Rams have a new look at QB in Matthew Stafford, so I’m am ruling them out as they adjust to a new style of play. The Seahawks are the value pick between the other two competitors, one that I’m happy to side with after a 12-4, division winning season last year.
Not much to see in the North. The Lions might be the worst team in football this year, the Bears will improve slightly but not enough, and the Vikings while good on paper, jsut can’t seem to string together stretches of wins like they used to. With Aaron Rodgers on the back of an MVP season and still with a chip on his shoulder, the Packers should walk in this division this season.
Again, not much value in the NFC South. The Saints were the big competitors to the Buccaneers last season but with Drew Brees now out of the fold, they will likely take some time to adjust to life with Jameis Winston at the helm. The reigning Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers should continue to roll as Tom Brady and co. hunt another Vince Lombardi Trophy.
Super Bowl LVI
Patrick Mahomes with a chip on his shoulder after a disappointing defeat in the Super Bowl last season? It’s certainly something that we are looking forward to watching this year. Despite a bit of a dismal display offensively in the big game, the Chiefs still run the most high powered offense in football and will be right at the top of the AFC standings come seasons end. They have the best chance of making it through to the Super Bowl due to a weaker division and conference, so they are our obvious picks to win the championship this season.
