It was a nerve racking Wednesday, but a good Wednesday as the Celtics overcame the Wizards and overtime to cover their 2.5 point handicap to hand us another Best Bet win. Unfortunately our Parlay of the Day couldn’t get over the line thanks to a poor Bucks performance, but you can’t win them all! After a huge 11-game slate on Wednesday, we now shift our focus to the smaller four game slate on Thursday and look to keep the ball rolling with another win. Good luck to everyone following!
Best Bet Thursday December 13th
Los Angeles Clippers @ San Antonio Spurs (8:40pm ET)
Our best bet from a tough four game Thursday slate comes from the Western Conference match-up between the Los Angeles Clippers and the San Antonio Spurs at the AT&T Center in Texas at 8:40pm (ET). This will be the second of three meetings between these olds rivals this season. The earlier meeting occurred on November 14 at the Staples Center, which the Clippers won by a score of 116-111. Last season the Spurs won the regular season series 2-1, winning both of their games at home.
Are the wheels starting to fall off at the Clippers? It certainly seems like it, at least it does lately anyway. After sitting on top of the Western Conference standings with a record of 15-6, the Clippers have now lost four of their last six games and one of those wins was against the dismal Suns team, which they needed overtime for. We feel that the main reason for their change in fortune is the injury to reigning Sixth Man of the Year winner, Lou Williams. He gives so much to this Clippers team, particularly in the clutch when his team needs a basket. Without him it just seems so hard for them to generate any good looks when it matters.
Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs have looked a lot better in recent games. After a poor start to the season, there were big question marks being asked about the talent of their roster and the future of Hall of Fame coach Greg Popovich not too long ago. But the team has responded over the past week or two, winning each of their last three games by double digits. They also find themselves on a four game winning streak at home, which takes their home record to an impressive 10-4. A win on Thursday against the Clippers would bring the Spurs back up to .500 for the season, which would be a great result for them considering everything that has gone on.
With Lou Williams set to miss this game and many more to come through injury, we love the price of the Spurs here. At near even odds you get a team that is 10-4 at home, playing in good form and with two star players, against a team that has lost four of their last six and is without their best scorer. In a slate with not too much on offer, we feel this is a solid play.
Parlay of the Day
There aren’t many games on Thursday, so we’ve opted to take a few extended lines in our parlay today. Firstly, for the reasons mentioned in our Pick of the Day, we’ve taken the Spurs to win. Secondly, we’ve added the Lakers +9.5. We feel they’re a huge chance to win that one against an underperforming Rockets line-up, so they should at least keep it under a 10 points margin. Finally, we’ve added both the Mavericks and Magic to win against their poor opposition.
Leg 1: Spurs to Win
Leg 2: Lakers +9.5
Leg 3: Mavericks to Win
Leg 4: Magic to Win
Parlay Odds: +404
