UFC returns this weekend with a new main event of Michelle Waterson and Angela Hill after Glover Teixeira tested positive for COVID-19 which has seen his bout with Thiago Santos cancelled.
In the co-main surprise rising contender Khama Worthy faces brawler Ottaman Azaitaw and many UFC newcomers face off against veterans in what should be a card full of highlights. We dive into some of the intriguing match ups below.
UFC Fight Night Betting Picks
Michelle Waterson vs Angela Hill
This fight should be a memorable one as both women aim to put themselves in title contention with a win. Both Waterson and Hill have similar strengths in their distance management and overall striking games, however, when it comes to the ground Michelle Waterson has a sneaky submission game that could cause Hill issues if the fight hits the mat. Waterson although known for her Karate background has underrated wrestling and grappling skills. She was only taken down once against wrestler Carla Esparza late in their fight in which she lost a razor thin decision.
If this fight stays standing for all five rounds, I believe Hill will edge it as she continues to show she is ever evolving and has more power than her counterpart Waterson. However, if it hits the mat, which I believe it will at some point, Waterson has a fantastic top game with genuine submission threat that could see her finish Hill or chalk up a dominant round at the very least. In what is a fight that is incredibly close I am leaning towards the underdog Waterson who has more tools to win this fight.
Billy Quarantillo vs Kyle Nelson
Billy Quarantillo has a fan favourite style, going and trying to finish every fight he is in whether it be on the feet or on the ground. This is evident in him finishing five straight opponents before his decision win in his last bout over Spike Carlyle. Kyle Nelson is a one-dimensional striker and hasn’t got an advantage in any area of this fight and it is hard to see how he wins this fight. Quarantillo earns himself a dominant win likely by finding the neck in the 2nd or 3rd round.
Roosevelt Roberts vs Matt Frevola
Roosevelt Roberts has put together a nice 10-2 record at only 26 years of age, finishing eight of his 10 wins, five by submission and three by knockout. Since his Contender Series victory earnt him a shot in the UFC, he has won four of his six UFC bouts. His loss in his last fight to Jim Miller is nothing to be ashamed of as the veteran has made a career out of sneaky submissions.
This will be Roberts third fight this year and will be keen to bounce back from his last fight disappointment. Matt Frevola also was a product of the Contender Series, but it must be said he has disappointed since joining the UFC where he was finished inside 60 seconds in his debut and then drew to Lando Vannata before winning his last two albeit by split decision. I am surprised these odds are so close as Roberts has the striking to keep Frevola guessing and has a big advantage on the ground. Roberts gets it done and convincingly.
