UFC 252 is here as we strap in for a PPV headlined by the Heavyweight title fight between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier. In what could be each men’s last fight this trilogy is as exciting of a fight as you can get and away from the main event, we also have a card full of stars such as Sean O’Malley, Junior dos Santos and up and comers Herbert Burns and Merab Dvalishvili to look forward to.
UFC 252 is back at the UFC Apex Centre in Las Vegas once again and the smaller Octagon should allow for plenty of action and yet again favour pressure fighters and wrestlers. We look at some of the key fights on the main card below.
UFC 252 Betting Picks
Stipe Miocic vs Daniel Cormier
Here we have the trilogy fight for the Heavyweight crown where both men come into it with one win against each other apiece. Cormier scored an early KO in their first fight before starting strong in his title defense but fading to body shots as Stipe reclaimed his belt.
Both men have clear routes to victory but Cormier with the benefit of the smaller Octagon and a grappling advantage should implement a smarter game plan and utiliss his wrestling to get the win in their trilogy fight.
I have the utmost respect for both men and Stipe is a master at game plans, but I don’t know if his boxing strength is enough to get the win again. DC didn’t respect Stipe’s power in the second fight and got complacent, but he would surely have rectified that, and it was a one-sided affair in the grappling exchanges in the early rounds which is no surprise when you look at DC’s grappling resume.
In what should be another great fight I am backing DC to get his hand raised and reclaim the title in what may be his last ever MMA fight.
Junior dos Santos vs Jairzinho Rozenstruik
Junior dos Santos is a former UFC Heavyweight Champion and although he has lost his last two it would be amiss to forget that he has wins over the likes of Stipe Miocic, Frank Mir and Cain Velazquez on his resume and is almost disrespected by the market as the underdog here. Rozenstruik is a high-level kick boxer with insane raw power but who knows how he will bounce back from a 20 second KO loss to Francis Ngannou in May.
Junior dos Santos has an immense wrestling advantage and the advantage in sole boxing exchanges. It also must be noted that Rozenstruik was on the way to a wide decision loss to Alistair Overeem before that killer punch and if JDS can avoid the big shots, especially early, he should be able to come out victorious.
Herbert Burns vs Daniel Pineda
The Burns brothers have been on a roll and while Gilbert is getting all the headlines, Herbert has been quietly going about his business and racking up a very good record. He hasn’t lost in the UFC and not at all since 2017. His jiu jitsu is unbelievable and if this gets to the ground with any time to work expect him to dispose easily of Daniel Pineda.
Pineda last fought in the UFC in 2014 and was cut after a 1-4 stretch but since then worked back into the PFL and was ultra-impressive before failing a drug test. He now somehow finds himself in the UFC on the back of a suspension (go figure) but he is in for a tough night against Burns who should dispose of him on the mat. Expect Burns to win this and win it well, further elevating his appeal and potentially gaining a ranked opponent next.
