Legal mobile sports betting is live in New York, bringing online sports betting to The Empire State.
In-person betting has been legal in New York since 2019, but now eager bettors and sports fans no longer need to travel to a brick-and-mortar casino to place their wagers. Five major sportsbooks are now live online – DraftKings, FanDuel, BetRivers, Caesars and PointsBet – with additional other operators approved to launch in the coming days.
As always, we’ve got you covered with all the news and promotions you need to get started with mobile sports betting in New York.
PointsBet New York LLC launches
On January 24, PointsBet became the fifth, regulated online sportsbook to go live in New York. The innovative sportsbook is now operating in nine different states.
The launch comes on the heels of PointsBet introducing a fantastic “Always On” live betting product for in-play wagers.
DraftKings Sportsbook Joins DFS Product in NY
The DraftKings New York platform now includes both a sportsbook as well as the existing daily fantasy product. The mobile app is live and taking bets for all customers over the age of 21.
If you’ve read our DraftKings review, you know we’re not just partners with, but also big fans of the igaming giant. The DraftKings mobile sports betting app is the same in New York as it is in other states, providing a clean, unified experience for bettors of any level. Residents of neighboring states that also have legal online sports betting, such as New Jersey and Pennsylvania, won’t have to download different apps when traveling across state lines either.
Who can bet on sports in NY?
Both in-person and online sports betting are available for anyone over the legal age of 21. This applies at all casinos and mobile apps.
Sports betting has slowly become legal on a state-by-state basis since 2018, when the Supreme Court overturned a federal ban on gambling on sports.
What are the best online sportsbooks in NY?
While only four sportsbooks are currently live in New York, five additional sports betting apps have been approved to launch in the state. These include Bally’s, BetMGM, WynnBet, Resorts and our friends at PointsBet.
We’ll keep this article updated as additional mobile sportsbooks go live in NY. Check back soon! In the meantime, our current preferred partner is DraftKings.

- Place your bets – We encourage our readers to follow two basic rules when betting on sports. The first is to never bet more than you can afford to lose. The second is to keep it fun. Be sure to manage your bankroll so you can ride the ups and downs – and eventually push the “ups” higher and higher over time!
