NBA Sunday Picks

Houston Rockets at Portland Trail Blazers

Moda Center, 9:00pm (ET)
The Houston Rockets continue their lengthy road trip and will be looking for a win to snap their eight-game losing streak. Clearly in rebuild mode, the Rockets have struggled all season long and haven’t strung more than two wins together this campaign. Young guns Jalen Green and Kevin Porter Jr. remain out with injury for this one, making matters even tougher.
The Portland Trail Blazers are in limbo in the Western Conference at the moment, currently sitting three games under 500 at 28-31. Five losses in their last seven have seen them slip down to 12th in the standings and three games behind the #6 seed. They too have some injury issues at the moment, with five players unavailable to play.
The Trail Blazers are 2-0 against the Rockets this season and both of their wins have been by at least a dozen points. Their chances of winning and winning big are only increased with this being on their home deck. If they have any aspirations of making the playoffs, these are the games they should be winning comfortably.

Los Angeles Clippers at Denver Nuggets

Ball Arena, 10pm (ET)
The Los Angeles Clippers looked set to win their first game with Russell Westbrook in the line-up, that was until they choked from a position that seemed impossible to lose from. They ended up going down 175-176 in an absolute shootout against the Kings, which snapped a mini two-game win streak they’d built.
Similarly, the Nuggets had a four-game win streak broken in their recent outing against the Grizzlies, which they lost by 18 points. It was their first loss on the road in four games and that’s a big improvement from their early season on the road. They now return home where they have a league-best 27-4 record this campaign.
The Nuggets are incredibly difficult to beat on their home deck and I can’t see it happening against on Sunday. The Clippers are coming off an emotionally deflating loss against the Kings and one that also went for an extra 10 minutes. With that said, I’m keen to back the Nuggets to win and cover the small spread on this occasion.
